Gameplay Group International brings another great fighting game into the ring. From the makers of THEM’S FIGHTIN’ HERDS, which may have been silly but had an immense amount of depth. This fast-paced 1v1 fighter brings the world of Avatar to life. The art looks incredible, the character designs are done exceptionally well, the backgrounds are beautiful but most importantly these characters GOT HANDS. The animations look amazingly fluid, and the ultimate moves are incredibly flashy.
One hard thing about fighting games is finding the balance between something approachable and having enough depth for the hardcore out there to enjoy it. Lean too much on the casual side and fighting game people won’t be interested in putting too much time into the game. However, if you lean too much on the other side and you have something that exactly 17 dudes will absolutely love. This game seems to strike a good balance between easily executable combos while having enough depth for any serious fighting fan to stick around.
GGI announced the level of interactivity between different characters. Depending on the relationship of the characters in the animated show, moves like Azula’s lighting bending can be redirected by specific characters: Aang and Zuko in the way they did it in the show. So, while Aang redirects the lightning away from the battlefield. Zuko will take the initiative and fire that lightning right back at them. I’m excited to see how many of these unique interactions there are in this game. It seems like the creators of this game are huge fans that want to do the IP right.
Had a chance to play most of the characters at the demo, but even more characters will be available at launch. Each character plays very differently and allows each person to find their play style and lean in heavily. At an incredibly reasonable $30 at launch, I’ll know where I’ll be when Avatar Legends the Fighting Game releases July 23rd on PC, PS5, Xbox Series S|X, Switch and Switch 2.
